Saturday May 11, 2024

It’s time to end our indoor season with a fun tournament for all of our members.  We hope you can all play, but if you can’t play we hope to see you at the courts.  We will also need volunteers to help out throughout the morning.

WHERE: All games will be held at the Christian Family Church, 2300 Heritage Pl NW

Cost: $10/player.  No need to have a partner.  Just sign up with a credit card on the OPA website and show up at 8:30 on May 11. Registration deadline is Tuesday, May 7.

Format – two divisions. Male and female players in separate round robin formats (if enough players) 2.5 division male and female will be starting all together.  You will be playing games with different players throughout the day.  Players will be divided up into pool play.  Expect 3-7 games in pool play.  Top players from each pool will advance to bracket play with all new players.  The purpose of the day is to play with many different players and to have fun as we wind down our indoor season. We should be done around noon.

Divisions

2.5 – This is reserved for

  • players who have never played in a tournament and/or
  • beginners who have just started in the past months and/or
  • our most senior players and/or
  • players with mobility difficulties and/or
  • our members who have not played very much in the recent past

This is a total fun and recreational (and possibly conversational) division.  Top three teams will be awarded medals

Everybody else (3.0+)
if you don’t qualify for the division above, you are in this division. Top three teams will be awarded medals.

The day will be filled with prizes, food, a ceremony to give our proceeds to Community Pathways (see below), and a raffle giving away a 2024-25 annual membership — $325 value — $1/entry

FUNDRAISER – Baby diaper collection
Our community outreach for this tournament will be Community Pathways (CP) in Owatonna. Community Pathways clothes and feeds and gives hope and support to Steele County’s citizens during their neediest times.

We will be collecting one of the most needed items at CP – baby diapers.  Collection will take place starting April 1 until we meet on May 11 when we meet to present the diapers collected to Community Pathways.  There will be pallets under the OPA sign at the courts to place your donation starting in April.  Members with last names A-K bring size 1-2 diapers, L-M bring size 3-4.  Bring any size package your heart is telling you to bring.

The OPA board has also voted to donate all player’s entry fee – so just by playing in this tournament you are giving to this worthy cause.  You will also be able to make a cash donation to CP when you register, at the courts, or mail in (PO Box 81) during April up to and including tournament day on May 11.

OPA players love pickleball, their community, and giving back.
