Beginner’s Tournament
Are you new to the sport of pickleball? Have you played awhile but never entered a tournament, but are interested in playing in a different setting than your daily rec play? Would you like to try a tournament in a safe and fun environment?
Owatonna Pickleball Association will host its second Beginner’s Pickleball Tournament on Saturday, January 11, 2025 in Owatonna, MN
Does this include you? You…
- …know how to play but you’re not quite as good as those 3.0 players…yet.
- …know how to keep score and know the basic rules/strategies.
- …have pretty good hand-eye coordination.
- …can keep the ball in play fairly well against like-minded players.
- …love pickleball, are willing to play with different players, and want to play as much as you can, and are looking for a different and fun kind of challenge.
What: Beginner’s Pickleball Tournament for all new players who have never played in a formal pickleball tournament.
When: Saturday, January 11, 2025 starting at 9am. Finishing by/before noon. Registration deadline is Monday, January 6, 2025.
Where: Christian Family Church, 2300 Heritage Place NW (next to Cabela’s on I-35), Owatonna, MN. Four dedicated courts.
Cost: Only $10 per player. No need to have a partner. You just sign up below with a credit card, show up at 8:30 am on January 11, and OPA will take care of the rest. We’re keeping it simple and fun.
Format: Round robin playing with different players for 4-7 games. Top 8 players will be matched randomly for single elimination playoff. Top three team will receive medals.
ADDED THIS YEAR: Before the official tournament starts, we will have a skills competition among anyone who is registered for the tournament, but you must declare when registering that you are interested. This is voluntary, free, and has no status on the tournament. It’s just a fun way to start out the day. Prizes for winners in each category. We will have four stations: Serving, dinking, receiving, target practice (what’s that? Come and find out)
